seized with panic. Though the last of our enemies Chang Teo-lin
has not been exterminated, the majority
of the provinces in China have been unified, and in the
absence of the disturbances by the Commurists at our
rear - an opportunity for our enemy our troops would have penetrated Peking and had him removed with no great difficulty. This shows that we were not far away from the complete success of our National Revolution, and that independence, freedom, and equality, would very soon be
realized for China. Thus sacrifices have been most
deservedly made by our national Revolutionary Armies, and that for a very great purpose. Unfortunately when our situation was highly critical, disturbances actually took place at our rear, for a kind of newly-born but systematic secret and violent influence has set up dissension among our officers and soldiers, usurped te the authority of our Kuomintang and destroyed our Chinese Republic. It has not only wanted to spoil the succes. we have secured through sacrifices but also to deprive our Kuomintang of its chance of existence. This is maliciously dangerous to the lives of our troops and to our Kuomintang and Nation, which we have supported at the sacrifices of our lives. I am therefore compelled to relate to you all the facts with all sincerity and frankness. All the trouble, I tell you, was caused by some betrayers of our Kuomintang in conjunction with the Communists with a view to put their wicked schemes into practice for their own benefit. Our late President in admitting individual communists into our Kuomintang, expected that they would be converted into believers in the principles of the "Three Aspects of Democracy",
and work hard for our National Revolution. This was
